The Friary

Retreats

The retreat centre at Ards Friary is very popular, and has a year round schedule of events. It is a source of vibrancy and life for the local community and for the spiritual seekers who come here from near and far.

Walks

The glorious parkland landscape setting of Ards Friary owes its recent history to the Anglo-Irish Stewart family who created and maintained this magnificent parkland landscape, and stocked it with broadleaved trees, in the early 19th century.

More recently the surrounding landscape has been declared a Special Area of Conservation (Sheephaven Bay SAC, 2014) in order to protect the unique habitats of mudflats, salt meadows, shifting dunes, machair grasslands and old oak woodlands.

Ministry

The Friars provide pastoral ministry for the people of this part of Donegal. Working closely with the clergy of the Diocese of Raphoe the friars are involved in many different forms of ministry.
